You can’t just take a size 8 and make it larger. In my travels, I’ve been an advocate for larger women. I’ve been talking to designers, but only a half-dozen make an effort. Most say, ‘I don’t want a woman who’s a size 10 or 11 wearing my clothes.’ Well, shame on you! It’s not realistic. We need to address real women with real needs.”

I’ve probably posted about this before, but Tim Gunn’s first book on how to dress yourself really revolutionized how I think about clothing. He’s really inspirational, and he’s all about only having clothes you love, and only keeping clothes that fit, and only having clothes that make you feel good about yourself.

today i threw out a halter-neck camisole i used to wear. it’s a bit snug for me now, so i could only really comfortably wear it under other things, but i’d been keeping it because it was the only halter-neck thing i owned and figured that might be useful. but when i was packing today i realized that every time i see it/put it on, all i can think of is the time my ex-boyfriend rob made fun of me for wearing it (it was kinda snug on me even then, even though i was about 25 pounds lighter at the time). not worth owning. not part of my wardrobe.
